My Laughter Yoga Interview —— Johor Bahru Happy and Joyous Club
My Laughter Yoga Interview —— Johor Bahru Happy and Joyous Club
Yesterday, I did a very special interview. I was invited by the Johor Bahru Happy and Joyous Club in Malaysia for a live broadcast interview.
I was very nervous about speaking English because I don't have much experience. But I am so grateful to the host, Mui Cheng. She followed my three prepared questions exactly, which made me feel very safe and comfortable during the whole process.
I also want to thank Helen Siew and Jean Lee for their introduction and support, as well as Jhon and Meera for attending. Your presence made me feel that I was not facing this alone.
If you cannot understand my English, that is totally fine! You can read the text record below.
1: As a naturally introverted person, how has Laughter Yoga helped you connect with people from around the world?

This question makes me think of when I first found Laughter Yoga. Before I found it, I had been looking for a similar platform, but I couldn't find one. when I finally found it, I felt very excited.
I never thought I would feel this way. At first, I focused on my body, relaxation, and some knowledge. But over time, I practiced more and joined more sessions. I became more and more interested in Laughter Yoga. I got my Leader Certificate, and this year I went to India for the Teacher Training.
For me, that was a big challenge. I had never travelled alone by plane — I always travelled with my family or my husband. I don't even know how I found the courage. It was also during Chinese New Year, and I had never left Hong Kong at that time before. My mother was not happy, My husband was very worried.
That trip to India was a wonderful experience. I met people face to face, especially those I had seen online many times. I made real friends.
I'm usually not good with socialising. I didn't even like laughing, and I never made videos of myself. So Laughter Yoga feels special to me. Maybe it's just laughter that helps us go beyond language.
I remember once in India, a classmate from Saudi Arabia, me from Hong Kong, and another from the US — the three of us were talking. The more we talked, the more confused we got, and then we all just laughed. The same thing happened with a Japanese classmate. I found it so fun and joyful.
Online Laughter Yoga — familiar faces, but still some distance — that suits me well. These friendships mean a lot to me.
Laughter Yoga didn't change who I am. It just gave me a way to connect with others without changing myself.
2:What do you know about Johor Bahru Happy and Joyous Club?

I found out about Laughter Yoga in Malaysia from the WhatsApp Mega Club group. I saw a link there — some friends were being interviewed — so I clicked and watched.
I was also invited by your group to the Laughter Yoga Anniversary event. I was asked to lead for 3 minutes. I felt very happy, but I was also nervous. I don't have much experience with this kind of thing, so I was really nervous.
Later, I learned that the Johor Bahru Happy and Joyous Club has been running for more than six years.
I don't know the club very well, but every time someone shares something, I watch a little and learn a little. I can feel your warmth and passion, especially the way you support elderly people through Laughter Yoga.
So when I have time, I hope to join your online sessions. It's not easy to keep something going for so many years, and I really appreciate that.
3. We hear you enjoy writing stories, swimming, and even cleaning toilets! 😊 What role does laughter play in your daily routine and happy lifestyle?

This question makes me think of when I first started Laughter Yoga. At first, I had to remind myself to laugh. I only laughed in the shower. I forgot to laugh at other times. I didn't laugh when doing housework. I often held my breath while working. That was not good.
But now, I laugh without thinking. I also breathe deeply and naturally. Then I have a long exhale. These habits help me feel better and more calm. Maybe because I am older, I can feel these small changes more easily. I really like that.
Writing is part of my life, and Laughter Yoga is also part of my life. So it's very natural for me to put Laughter Yoga into my stories. Every time I finish a story, I feel done.
When I swim, I also bring Laughter Yoga into it. I don't laugh in the water. I don't want to drink the pool water! Before, I listened to music while swimming. Now, I also add Laughter Yoga notes or learn English.
In other parts of my life, Laughter Yoga has become part of my daily routine. I'm really glad about that.
Before, when I had worries or felt sad, I would react quickly. Now, the first thing I do is laugh and breathe deeply. This really helps me. It stops me from saying the wrong thing. It also stops negative thoughts from coming first. Now, I laugh first. And before I laugh, I take a deep breath.
I'm really grateful for this experience. Thank you for reading, and thank you again to everyone who made this interview possible. I hope my story brings a smile to your face 😊
